Our Founder

Darrin Cotton Jr was born and raised on the southside of Chicago. He attended Brooks College Prep, where he thrived as a multisport athlete, earning standout status in both Football and Basketball. DJ went on to attend the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, and later transferred to Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI.

At Davenport, DJ soared as a long, athletic defensive back, finishing his final season with 30 tackles and 3 interceptions. In April of 2023, DJ Cotton earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Management and Business. Additionally, Cotton earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration in 2025 to pursue a career in Sports Business.

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, DJ has witnessed everything the city has to offer. DJ’s roots in Chicago have been a huge blessing, from the culture he was raised in to his experiences with some of the brightest and most talented young people in the world, all from Chicago. Through these experiences, he's realized that oftentimes, individuals just need a platform to showcase their talents.

Concrete Rose 773 exists to empower youth from under-resourced communities by providing access to sports, mentorship, education, and leadership development opportunities. Through intentional programming and meaningful relationships, we strive to cultivate confidence, character, and resilience—helping young people recognize their potential and thrive both on and off the field.

VISION STATEMENT

Our vision is a future where every young person, regardless of zip code or socioeconomic background, has equitable access to opportunities that foster personal growth, academic success, and lifelong leadership. We envision communities strengthened by empowered youth who lead with purpose, give back, and break cycles of inequality.

IMPACT STATEMENT

Concrete Rose 773 creates lasting impact by using sports as a catalyst for holistic youth development. Through camps, leagues, mentorship programs, scholarships, and community events, we:

Provide safe, inclusive spaces for youth to learn, compete, and grow
Develop leadership, teamwork, and life skills that extend beyond athletics
Connect youth with mentors, role models, and career pathways
Strengthen families and communities through collaboration and service
